Breaking through ceilings
Mar. 30, 2014
Today I was volunteering as a usher escorting people to available seating for the sermon. The service I help provide today was very fulfilling to the audience because I was able to fit families together in a comfortable seating arrangements, allowing them to get more out of the sermon. I personally love doing this type of service because it not only allows others to enjoy the sermon for me as well. The message today was breaking through the barriers that keep us from our goals. It was a very insightful sermon. Basically, telling people that the only walls in our way of life are the ones we make ourselves, and telling people that by trusting in yourself and trusting that "God" -or so have you the universe and such- will lead you to were you want to go. It was a great sermon and I felt very satisfied fitting as many people possible to enjoy/embrace the sermon, and I can't wait to hear the word next week.If you want to hear the message yourself use the URL below:

Turning your work into ministry
November 2, 2013
Today my organization was going over the issue of One’s Purpose in Society, to its audience. They address this issue by quoting versus from the book of Colossians, in the Bible, to support their claim that: everything one does is for a greater purpose. They promoted this idea to their audience by pointing out jobs that, in society’s perspective, would seem disappointing to have. Jobs such as being: a janitor, cab driver, and even a shepherd. They tried to say that no matter what it is you do is for purpose, and that if you didn’t do it then no one would. Then they want off to give examples of how each job contributes to society. At the end of all the preaching it seemed to me that they made great success in passing their message to the community to improve individuals life’s. Moreover, I felt that this message also was meant for me as well. This is because my service to the organization, and therefore community, is to help with the management of parking cars in the parking lot for the church. At first I felt that this task was meaningless, but now I know that if it wasn’t for me helping to fit as many vehicles in an orderly manner as possible. Then there wouldn’t be space for other people to come and hear such an inspirational message.

Breaking down walls
October 19, 2013
Today my organizations lead speaker Pastor Mark Jobe prepared a powerful sermon for the community. His sermon was about tearing down walls in our life and pushing forward to a new day and new you. This was a very powerful message to the community because it gave hope to the people, who listened in on the sermons, that one’s past does not have to control one’s future. A powerful message that I think everyone should hear, and that the organization did an extraordinary job telling it to the people. In the beginning of his message he talked about how these walls that we run into life were built up by the shame of our past, and that in order to overcome them we must confront our mistakes. He then went off about how we cannot let the unfortunate things that happen to us to dictate our lives. Lastly, to bring a summary to his sermon he said to his audience: it’s not who you were that defines you, its who you will be, and what you’re going to be that defines you. It was a very powerful message indeed. One that I was proud to say that I contributed towards helping people hear the message by helping them find a place to park nearby so they wouldn’t have to skip out on it.

Be the change
October 5, 2013
Today my organization was talking about becoming Change Agents. What that is basically, as they described, is being someone who sees something wrong and does not wait for someone else to handle it or till last moment when it’s too late. That as a society we need to learning to give to one another, that we must not give our first fruits to ourselves, that we must overcome as a society our selfishness and give back to one another without expecting of something in return. That by giving to one another is the first step to becoming an Agents of Change. I found this message to be short but powerful; because it promotes people to start taking the initiative to change what they believe needs to be in order to make their community better. I’m also starting to fined that the more time I spend truly listening, not just hearing but listening, to the words being preached I feel this conjuration growing on me. My duties towards helping out with the parking may not seem like much, but the more time I spend this organization it’s helps me see that’s what I am doing is helping the community. This is because when people can’t find parking nearby they get discouraged and decided to just go somewhere else, but by me finding them somewhere to park they are able to hear the message that is being preached and recognizing that this place is where they need to be.

THE SECRET TO CONTENTMENT
May 26, 2013
Today's message was about contentment. How an order for one to be truly content with one's own life they must not compare. Comparison is the enemy of contentment. How we compared our circumstances to others and think "well maybe if my live was a little bit more like there's then I'll be happy". The problem with this is that even if you get what you want would it be enough to satisfy your hunger for more? In order to be contempt you cannot blame your circumstances. For your circumstances do not determine your happiness only your attitude does. You must learn to be thankful for what you have for your circumstances could be much worse. You must learn to give thanks in all things. The secret to contentment is to fill that empty cup within your heart for more with love, and once that cup is filled pour it into others hearts. Learn to say "having more will not make me more content. Only love will".

Hey everybody it's nice to back. Today massage, which you can check out with the URL below, was heart worming to say the lest. The moral of the message was that you can not be content, happy, and fulfilled with an unclean conscience. That in order to live a life of happiness and content life we must first be able to forgive. That we may of had a parents who walked out on us, a friend whom we felt betrayed us, or a love that grew cold on us. Whatever it is that keeps our hearts held back from love we must learn to rise up and face it. Someone may have caused you harm or you may have caused someone harm. No matter the case, we as a society must learn to pick up the paces all our shattered friendships and put them back together. If in the end, once you have put the pieces together, the other will not take the offering of peace and new beginnings. your life will still go off to be fulfilled for you have done all that you could.

God's Challenge Our Choice

Hey Everyone Happy Holidays :)!!! So this is probably going to be my last blog for a while… or maybe even forever who knows? ;( But I at least want to take some time to reflect and give some feedback about the time I spent here at New Life Community Church. So I’ve been a member to this church for a couple of years now and I can truly say that now more than ever do I truly understand and appreciate all of the things this place has done. Not for me but for others. Truly the only reason I made this blog was for community service for school to obtain hours, but now do I truly appreciate and realize the meaning behind having to do these blogs. In the beginning doing these blogs felt absurd. I felt that other people at other schools don’t have to do this, so why do we? Then I realized it’s not about having to do a blog or anything. It’s about knowing why you doing something and what you’re doing it for. Most people in other high schools they just show up to their service place, get a sheet signed, and are on their way probably never to come back again. And that’s fine and all, they did what they needed to do and help some people along the way. But I feel that if more people took the time to really go back and reflect on what they did then the more people will go back and continue to serve their community paving it forward one step at a time. For me if there’s one thing my community service has taught me it’s that: just because your service to the community didn’t have some kind of global impact doesn’t mean it wasn’t important. Like this church for example, is it reaching everyone around the world? No. Is reaching everyone around the country? Probably not. Is it reaching everyone in Illinois? Who knows maybe. But what I do know is that whoevers life’s this place touches; those life’s go off and do the same, and so on and so forth. Well at this point I’m just kind of rambling so I’ll cut it to a close. This place has opened my eyes to a lot, and moreover has helped out so many people in the almost 10 years it’s been around. So don’t really know what else to say but I’ll leave a link to another video from today that truly goes over how much of an impact this place has had on others. Have a good life everyone and Happy New Year!!!! Peace out =)

We are a family not a fan club

Hey everyone happy holidays! Today my organization gave a pretty insightful message that I thought everybody should hear. Before I tell you what it’s about I want to tell you a modified version of the story that Pastor Mike Berry was telling. The story goes that one day Pastor Mike was at the gym, and some random guy came up to and said “thank you for all your service to the nation”. In confusion Pastor Mike looks around to see if there’s someone around him he’s talking to. Then he realizes that he’s wearing a shirt that says “United States Marine Core”, so then he tells the man that he’s not actually in the Marines is just wearing the shirt. Now this is really important to the message, because this got him thinking. Why is it that the man thought he was a marine? He was only wearing a shirt. Then he wonders in his head, just because you see someone in a Bulls jersey doesn’t mean that they are on the team. That’s when he came to a realization about life, which the sermon was based on. The realization was, and I’m putting it in the terms of Christianity (you could put it in whatever way you want), that most people are T-shirts Christian’s. That people may attend church, wear a cross around their neck, and even read the Bible, but people don’t realize that there’s more to it than that. In other words I felt that they were trying to say that: you can’t just say you’re a part of something, in order to be truly be a part of something you need to invest yourself in it. And I don’t know I just thought that I was a really neat message that a lot of people in my generation should really embrace; I just feel that people in my generation waste so much time trying to be someone else when all they really need to be as themselves. Also, if you want to hear the message yourself use the URL below:
